About the Event
THE LIFE CYCLE OF A FULL YEAR IS COMING TO ITS END - WHILE THE BIRTH OF A NEW ONE IS UPON US... "TONALPOHUALLI" (TÕH-NAHL-POH-ALL-LEE) IS THE WORD USED TO COUNT THE DAYS. THE SUN STONE. THE AZTEC CALENDAR. THE MAYAN CALENDAR. THE MONUMENT; AND AN ARRAY OF OTHER TERMS USED TO TITLE IT TO YOUR COMFORT. TONALPOHUALLI IS SACRED. IT ISN'T VEIWED AS JUST ANOTHER NUMBER FLIPPING OVER TO THE NEXT. THAT IS CALLED THE GREGORIAN CALENDAR. THE MEXICA (MEH-SHE-KAH) PLACED LIFE INTO EACH SYMBOL (DAY SIGN THAT YOU SEE ON THE CALENDAR) AND IT HELD A RESPONSIBILITY FOR US OVER THAT YEAR UNTIL ITS DEATH. (MARCH 11TH) MEANING THAT A NEW BIRTH WAS TO FOLLOW (MARCH 12TH). THE HOLIDAY IS SPECIAL IN OUR CULTURE AND MANY GROUPS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLE. THIS DAY IS CELEBRATED THROUGHOUT MEXICO AND IN SOME COMMUNITIES WITHIN THE UNITED STATES. THIS HOLIDAY IS CALLED "YANCUIC XIHUITL" (YAHN-COO-EEK - SHE-WHO-EET-UL) MEXICA NEW YEAR. CELEBRATIONS COMMENCE WITH CEREMONIAL DANCES AND SONGS SET TO THE BEAT OF TRADITIONAL DRUMS. DANCERS COME DRESSED IN COLORFUL TRADITIONAL FINERY AND QUETZAL (KEH-TZ-ALL) FEATHERS. ANYONE FORTUNATE TO HAVE CAN ATTEST TO HOW MESMERIZING THESE PERFORMANCES CAN BE. DANZA DE AZTECA OR THE AZTEC DANCERS WILL BE CELEBRATING THE NEW LIFE AT OR AROUND NOON. THE VARRIO OR COMMUNITY WILL BE EXTENDING THEIR BORDERS TO ALL WHO WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND BUT PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS IS STILL SOMEONE'S NEIGHBORHOOD AND THEY WILL GLADLY DIE FOR IT. THEY ASK ALL TO PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL AND COURTEOUS TO ONE ANOTHER AND HAVE A GREAT TIME. ALL OTHER VARRIOS ARE WELCOME. HANDS DOWN. ALL STREETS AND AVENUES PLEASE COME AND SUPPORT THIS EVENT. THE IS ABOUT ALL OF US. THERE WILL BE FOOD, DRINKS, MUSIC, LOWRIDERS, GAMES, AND MUCH MORE.
